Outlines

  • This tutorial will show you how to create outlines.

  • Begin with a base image to outline.

  • If you have a single layer to outline, you can simply right-click on the layer in the Layer dialog box and select "Alpha to Selection". If you have multiple layers to outline, you can use the Select by Color tool. Ensure in the tool dialog that Sample Merged is selected, select a region outside of the area to be outlines, and press CTRL-I to invert the selection.
  • Create a new layer and paint your outline color into the selection.

  • In the Select menu, select Shrink. Specify the numbers of pixels you wish to shrink the select by. The number that you place here will determine how think your outline is. Larger numbers create thicker outlines.

  • Press OK and you will see the shrunken outline.

  • Press CTRL-X to remove the selected area. This will leave nothing but your line.

  • Once everything is completed, you will have a new layer outlining your content.
